The International Festival of Authors is coming to Thunder Bay! The Sleeping Giant Writers Festival is pleased to present Lit On Tour, bringing three great Canadian authors to Thunder Bay to share their knowledge in one great night.

October 16, 2017 at 7:00 pm, The Prince Arthur Waterfront Hotel and Suites, Provincial Room.

  • James Bartleman became the first Native Lieutenant-Governor of Ontario in 2002 after a distinguished career of more than 35 years in the Canadian foreign service. The author of the prize-winning memoir Out of Muskoka, Bartleman presents As Long as the Rivers Flow.
  • Johanna Skibsrud won the 2016 Scotiabank Giller Prize for her first novel, The Sentimentalists. Skibsrud presents This Will Be Difficult to Explain and Other Stories.
  • Jane Urquhart is the internationally acclaimed author of three previous novels, a collection of short fiction, three books of poetry and a short biography of Lucy Maud Montgomery. Urquhart will read from her novel, The Underpainter, which is set in Thunder Bay.

Welcome to the Sleeping Giant Writers Festival

The largest literary festival in Northern Ontario, sponsored by Fresh Essays, held in the shadow of Thunder Bay's Sleeping Giant, the Sleeping Giant Writers Festival brings premier Canadian authors to the city for a weekend of workshops, readings, and interaction with festival attendees.

Getting Ready for 2018

No, that isn't a typo. The Sleeping Giant Writers Festival has been put on hiatus for this year. Keep your pens to the paper, though, as we'll be bringing other events to Thunder Bay to fill the gap this fall, and will do our best to put on a great festival in 2018.
